Make your own Cheesy Wands! Recipe

Cheesy Wands

I made these Cheesy wands for my Harry Potter Party, they were very popular, great with Hummus and Guacamole.  They are also extremely easy, a great thing for kids to make!

Ingredients

Makes about 18 wands

1 sheet of puff pastry
40g grated Parmesan cheese
40g grated mature cheddar
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper / hot paprika (add more if you like it spicy)
Salt and black pepper

Preheat oven to 180*C / 375*F / Gas mark 5

Method

Line a couple of large baking trays with baking paper.

Roll out your puff pastry sheet, keeping it on it's parchment paper.

Mix the cheeses and spices together in a small bowl.

Sprinkle the cheese mixture on to the pastry and press in with your hands - you could use a rolling pin, but I found my hands worked better.

Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife cut the pastry into strips about 1 inch wide.

Hold the strip at each end and twist them into a corkscrew - this can be quite fiddly, don't worry if you lose some cheese you can sprinkle it over the top later.

Place the twisted strips on to the baking trays about an inch apart (they will expand slightly), sprinkle on any left over cheese and bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes or until they are golden and crispy.

Allow to cool on the trays for 10-15 minutes and transfer to a wire rack.

They will keep in an airtight container for a couple of days.

Next time I make them I am going to try using a thick cheese sauce rather than grated cheese as there were a little dry without the hummus and guacamole.

But definitely the favourite savoury item at the party!

Happy Pottering!
